FAQs

General

Q:

What grade levels do you teach?

A:

6th -12th Grade

Q:

What subjects do you teach?

A:

  • Bible
  • English, Grammar, Composition, and Spelling
  • Math
  • History
  • Geography

Q:

Can LHA assist students performing below grade-level?

A:

We work one-on-one with each child to support their progress, while group activities are designed around skills and concepts all students are already familiar with. We avoid comparing students to their peers, focusing instead on individual growth. This approach builds confidence and encourages genuine friendships—free from embarrassment or self-doubt.

Q:

Will my child need to take a placement test?

A:

Yes. We give every student a short evaluation in math, language, and reading to see where they should begin. This helps us place them at the right level so they feel confident and successful from the start.

Q:

When and where do classes take place?

A:

The 2025–26 school year begins on Monday, September 8, 2025, and ends on Friday, June 5, 2026.

All classes listed under “Academics” are core courses. Core classes must be registered for, and are held online via Zoom. At times, assignments from these courses will connect to in-person activities—for example, an English reading project may conclude with a brunch, a group discussion, and a film based on the book.

In addition, we will meet periodically (often once a week) for projects, academic enrichment, and field trips. Families will always receive advance notice of in-person activities, including the date, time, place, and any materials needed. These gatherings are designed to enrich the online coursework and build community among students.

Q:

What curriculum does LHA use?

A:

We use the Abeka curriculum, though our methods mean textbooks are rarely the main focus. For instance, while Abeka provides strong instruction in English grammar, it can become tedious. To keep students engaged, we alternate between a week of textbook study and a week of creative writing to practice what they’ve learned.

Q:

Can my child enroll for one subject, only?

A:

Yes. Choose as many or as few as you'd like. It's up to you.

Q:

Will I (the parent) be required to stay at in-person events, or can I drop-off my child?

A:

We’ll let parents know ahead of time if an event is drop-off or if you’ll need to stay with your child.

Tuition

Q:

How much does it cost and how is tuition calculated?

A:

Tuition is $25 per student, per week. For example, one student enrolled in all classes is $25 per week; two students enrolled in all classes is $50 per week.

Please note: our website is currently set up to calculate tuition “per class,” which may cause your balance to appear higher than it actually is. We are working with our website provider to correct this issue. In the meantime, rest assured you will never be charged more than $25 per student, per week, regardless of what your balance shows.

Q:

Do you offer discounts or financial aid?

A:

At $25 a week, our tuition is set at the lowest possible rate. Because of this, we do not offer additional discounts. This flat rate keeps tuition accessible for every family.

Q:

Will I need to purchase textbooks?

A:

Textbooks are not required. While families may purchase them if they choose, most of our instruction is supported through digital resources, teacher-created materials, and printed copies provided as needed. This allows us to keep costs low while still giving students access to high-quality learning materials.

Religion

Q:

Do I have to be a Christian to attend LHA?

A:

No. However, as a Christian institution, LHA requires all students to honor the Biblical principles that govern our school. Your family will be required to sign our Statement of Faith which states that you will respect our beliefs.

Legal

Q:

What are the Laws that govern homeschool in NJ?

A:

In New Jersey, the Legislature under the compulsory education law (N.J.S.A. 18A:38-25) has permitted children to receive “equivalent instruction elsewhere than at school,” including the home. See the NJ FAQs for Homeschooling:https://www.nj.gov/education/safety/nontraditional/faq_homeschool.shtml
